Changes to KaDeck Community

“In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety.” – Abraham Maslow

Dear valued KaDeck user,

The last few weeks have been some of the most exciting and turbulent weeks for quite some long time as we were launching so many new things at once. We have released a new version of KaDeck 1.4, a new KaDeck Professional edition for our professional users as well as a new website and support center to better keep in touch with you.

But we also had to make some cuts, which affects the new Community edition of KaDeck. We have created the Community edition to mainly support developers in open source projects and educational purposes. As our user base is continuously growing, support requests (~80% were about connecting & security of CE) are growing as well, and – as we all know from our daily work as developers – maintenance and testing becomes more difficult and cost-intensive. All this didn’t hit us by surprise of course, but as we all at Xeotek have a developer background, our developer heart wanted to keep up the Community edition. And I am happy to say, that we have managed to find a good solution, that was not easy for us and, time will tell, might not even be profitable, but allows us continuing the KaDeck edition for our developer community.

The new KaDeck Community edition focuses on delivering a great experience for local development and testing of your Apache Kafka applications. We have added functionality such as the embedded cluster feature but also removed the ability to connect to a remote cluster. When upgrading, your current data will not be lost, but the remote connections will not longer be displayed in the UI.

The new KaDeck Professional edition introduces a brand new server browser screen, new record list functionality such as adding attributes as columns and new security and connection features. This is our version for our professional users and companies that need to connect to remote clusters and need advanced features for visualizing data and much more.

I personally and the whole Xeotek team thank you for your support and please feel free to send us your questions and comments via mail (moc.kcedak@troppus).

Yours sincerely,

Benjamin Buick
CEO of Xeotek
